9 Wild Ways to Do Yoga in Boulder

Who said yoga has to be so serious? Boulder’s legendary yoga community has taken the activity to the next level with these wacky combinations. These unique classes will lend a fresh take to all your asanas.

Goat Yoga

Stretch, breathe, laugh and be nuzzled by goats. There’s nothing not delightful about goat yoga, held at Growing Gardens, a small farm smack dab in the middle of Boulder. Combining the therapeutic, endorphin-releasing benefits of yoga and animal contact, these classes will leave you grinning ear-to-ear and put a spring in your step.

Next-Level Yoga

Did you know that Boulder's Naropa University was the first U.S. college to offer an undergraduate degree in yoga in 2008? They also offer a master's program in yoga, one of only two such programs nationwide.

Brewery Yoga

Here in Boulder, a good yoga class is best washed down with a pint of IPA or stout. Join Mark Stefanowski at Sanitas Brewing for Full Throttle Yoga — an hour-long, all-levels vinyasa class on the first and third Sundays of the month at 10:30am, followed by a beer with your fellow yogis.

Cat Yoga

Think downward dog, except with a cat on your back. Get your workout in while fifteen resident cats roam the room, offering snuggles and kisses. Open to all levels, this biweekly class at Purrfect Pause Cat Cafe is limited to 15 (1:1 human-to-cat ratio) so reserve your spot ahead of time.

Rooftop Museum Yoga

During warmer months, the Museum of Boulder hosts Yoga on the Roof with rotating instructors. Flow on their spacious patio with views of the flatirons and downtown Boulder, followed by a perusal of their current exhibitions (if you wish) and a pop into their museum gift shop.

Stand-Up Paddleboard Yoga

The beautiful Boulder Reservoir is the perfect setting to try SUP yoga with Rocky Mountain Paddleboard. It’s a crazy-good workout for your core, as you learn to balance on the water and move through yoga poses. And if you happen to tip and take a dip — all the more refreshing!

Acroyoga

Combine yoga and acrobatics for acroyoga — a freeing, flying sensation, made possible by the support of a yoga partner. Sound fun? Boulder Circus Center has an intro to acroyoga class. One of Boulder's most popular climbing gyms, Movement, also offers an ongoing acroyoga class on Thursday nights.

Yoga in the Park

Get grounded, breathe in Boulder’s fresh air and soak up mountain views in some Boulder’s loveliest city parks. Yoga Pearl meets regularly in North Boulder Park for vinyasa and family classes. Head to the iconic Chautauqua Park, where views of the Flatirons are front and center, for a self-led class of your own or with friends and family.

Yoga in the Canyon

"Adventure yoga" classes, often followed by a free kombucha or beer and live DJ, are held on the beautiful lawn of A-Lodge Boulder, tucked away in the piney wilderness of Boulder Canyon (yet just 5 minutes from downtown). Check their Facebook page for event updates and details.
